New Featured Video: Indent

  • I’m trying something new, just to see how it works out.  I want to feature at least three small videos a month, independent from the rest of the blog posts, with simple  tips and tricks, the kind of “How do I do this…”  stuff.  Hopefully, the videos can be useful for those visiting this blog. I would like to do this at least once a week, but we’ll see how it goes. The first featured video is “How do I… Use the indent feature?”, and it provides a couple of simple examples of the use of Indent, first to create a packaging for a group of screwdrivers, and then to create a cavity in a shelled body that contains other features (ribs).  I hope you find it helpful and that the quality is not so bad. As usual, suggestions are welcome.  One more thing, I know the video looks small, but click on the full screen option to see it bigger.

Although this comment is close to 7 months after the fact…
It’s always good to find “Good-Stuff” like this to reflect on those commands we don’t use on a regular bases. Thanks to “FINE” folks like Gabijack, Ricky Jordan and Ben @SolidJott for making these videos available.

    Enjoy every minute…
    Thank you

Hello Gabijack, Indent video, I noticed tool bars I don’t have, shown above the feature TB (SW2009), maybe because I’m running the base SW program? I seem (also) to be missing knowledge to get to the point where the Ident/packaging vid started. How about a prequel for the indent video? If its easier, a personal note back with the simple steps, ie inserting the solid bodies is the heart of where I’m stopped. Sorry, yours and other such blogs and vids show me how more I need to learn! – Happy New Year.

    • Hi John,

One of those toolbars belongs to the spacepilot I’m using. The other ones can be activated by right clicking anywhere on the command manager and selecting from the list of toolbars that will display. It’s true that the toolbars available depends on what your seat of SolidWorks includes, but I’m almost sure I didn’t have anything fancy turned on at that moment. I’m just cluttered when it comes to toolbars. I like to have them on sight. :-)

I’ll write about inserting a part in a part this week, so make sure to come back, and thanks for visiting!

Although it’s a but slow to load, Gabi. Youtube or Vimeo would indeed be nice ;)

    • Thanks! I have to try different things with the videos. I did try uploading this one to youtube, but ran into some trouble and the file never showed up. I guess I’ll have to keep experimenting.

  4. Thanks, Ricky! I think I need to make them a little bigger, no? It’s a learning process, I guess… :-)

  6. Are you putting these on YouTube or Vimeo too?

    • Not this one. I used to have all my videos on Viddler, but they aren’t taking any more files on flash format, and I tried uploading MOV, but I didn’t like the way the resolution got completely lost when in full screen mode. For now, I’m hosting it here, until I find a better site to host them or upgrade to Camtasia Studio 6 to produce better resolution files that are also compact in size. I haven’t tried Vimeo.
