Hey guys, you know we bloggers love comments and we always welcome our readers to share their point of view on everything we write about, right? I mean, at least I do. However, what I really can’t have in this blog is nasty comments and flames, as well as profanity of any sort, even if it’s not exactly directed towards me, and especially when it’s directed to other readers of this blog. I will not allow that! That’s not the purpose of this blog! For that reason, I’ve recently removed the last few comments that were made today, all of them for the post “On Doing Davinci”, and closed comments for that particular post altogether. Sorry guys, but it was getting out of control! I don’t mean to appear as the comment police. I’m really very laid back and I want to listen to what others have to say, even if what they have to tell me is “Gabi, sorry but you got it all wrong, girl, let me show you how it’s done”. Everybody is welcome to contribute their thoughts and ideas here, as long as it’s done in a respectful way. Please, refrain from profanity and flame wars!
Gabi, did someone wriye you a bad comment? If they did, I’m sorry, they obviously don’t know you very well because if they did they wouldn’t be writting bad things.
Steve
Not to me personally, but to a reader of the blog. It seems I had a troll, actually. See a guy had expressed his dislike of one of the members of the team in the show Doing Davinci, some other guy didn’t like what he said and left a comment… I usually monitor comments for spam, but the rule is once you get one comment approved, it means you are safe, not a spammer, and your next comment will show up right away. Sometimes, because life gets hectic and I can’t do it all, comments that are instantly approved this way pile up before I can go through them and this guys took advantage of that to begin a flame war between them. When one of them began leaving really angry and nasty comments to the other one and even pretending to be somebody else (but the IP and info tells me it’s the same person, duh!), that’s when I knew it was getting out of control. I guess this happens everywhere… I don’t like deleting people’s comments, but I don’t want the comments area to become like the ones you see sometimes in those news blogs that have 300 comments per article, but they are all either spam or flame wars between readers.
I use two fold spam protection. I have WP-SpamFree as the first line of defense. It doesn’t allow suspicious comments to even be accepted. My second tier is Akismet, with holds over any further suspicious comments for review.
Anyway, about your topic, comments areas on blog articles are not forums (though they are often used as such). They are simply for comments (feedback) on the article. So, there is no problem with moderating the their content.
